Green Scenery Sierra Leone has completed an assessment of 45 local farmers in Pujehun Township as part of a new initiative aimed at promoting agroecology and vertical farming to strengthen food security and climate-resilient agricultural practices.

The assessment, conducted from May 20 to 21, 2026, involved the use of a standardized Farmer Assessment Checklist to evaluate participants based on their current farming activities, availability of land, and willingness to adopt innovative agricultural techniques. According to project officials, the selection process focused on identifying individuals with the potential to contribute meaningfully to community-based food production systems.

Following the exercise, Executive Director Joseph Rahall met with the farmers on May 22 to explain the next phase of the project and provide updates on the beneficiary selection process.

Although 45 farmers participated in the assessment, Rahall disclosed that only 25 beneficiaries would be selected for the pilot phase after a final verification process by the organization’s head office.

“Transparency is central to our selection process,” Rahall said, noting that the pilot initiative is designed to lay the groundwork for broader expansion in the future.

He encouraged community members to view the project as part of a long-term strategy to promote sustainable agriculture, improve food production, and strengthen rural livelihoods.

Farmers who participated in the assessment welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that agroecological and vertical farming techniques would help increase crop yields, diversify income sources, and improve resilience to climate-related challenges.

The project is expected to contribute to enhanced food security, environmental sustainability, and economic opportunities for farming communities across Pujehun District.
