Women’s rights group #SheStands has strongly condemned the treatment of a citizen, Haja Mariama Kuyateh, at a recent town hall meeting attended by President Julius Maada Bio.
The organization has accused Information Minister Chernor Bah and a group of pro-government supporters of intimidating and silencing Kuyateh during the event.
According to #SheStands, Kuyateh faced significant challenges in being recognized and given an opportunity to speak or ask the president questions. Despite persistent attempts, she was initially denied, only to be granted permission by the president himself.
The women’s group further alleges that Minister Bah overstepped his role as a moderator by publicly condemning Kuyateh, creating an intimidating atmosphere for her and forcing a reluctant apology. Moreover, Kuyateh was subjected to harassment from pro-government supporters throughout the event, preventing her from freely expressing her views.
#SheStands emphasized the importance of women’s right to freedom of expression and called for equal opportunities for women to participate in public discourse. The organization commended Kuyateh for her courage and resilience in the face of adversity.
While acknowledging that there have been no reports of physical harm to Kuyateh, #SheStands remains concerned about the broader implications of such incidents for women’s participation in public life.
Come on. Women group. Even in the develop countries, people are not allowed to interrupt the president, especially in publicmeetings. They are prevented, even by arrest.
But it befitting the Bio administration, they have all kinds of laws these days for issues that are irrelevant.
