Freetown to face 8-Hour Water Shutdown for Urgent Pipeline Repairs following an emergency public notice issued by the Guma Valley Water Company (GVWC).

The utility company announced a temporary city-wide shutdown of the water supply today, Friday, March 6, 2026, to facilitate critical repairs on major transmission infrastructure.

The interruption is expected to last for a total of eight hours. Residents should take note of the following timeframe: Start Time: 2:00 P.M and End Time: 10:00 P.M.

According to the official statement signed by the GVWC Management, engineering teams are being deployed to Pogodon and Mambo to address three primary technical failures: Repair of a burst on the 28-inch transmission pipeline at Pogodon, Hamilton.

Replacement of a faulty washout valve on the 22-inch transmission pipeline at Pogodon, Hamilton, and Replacement of a faulty washout valve on the 28-inch transmission pipeline at Mambo.

The Guma Valley Water Company expressed regret over the sudden nature of the interruption.

“Management sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this temporary interruption may cause and assures valued customers and the general public that every effort will be made to complete the repairs and restore the water supply within the stated timeframe.”

Residents are encouraged to use their existing water reserves sparingly until full service is restored later tonight.
