The Diego Gonzalez Rivas Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, launched its renowned state-of-the-art Mobile Surgery Truck on September 27, 2025, in Kono District, marking a groundbreaking step in expanding access to advanced surgical services for the people of Sierra Leone.

The initiative, spearheaded by internationally acclaimed thoracic surgeon Dr Diego Gonzalez Rivas, aims to bring specialised surgical care directly to underserved communities in the Kono District.

The ceremony, which was held at the Koidu Government Hospital, brought together government officials, healthcare professionals, local leaders, as well as international partners.

The Mobile Surgery Truck, equipped with modern facilities, will provide free services for three days to patients who face difficulties accessing surgical services in Koidu city and its environs.

The launch of the Mobile Surgery Truck underscores the Minister of Health, Dr Austin Demby’s, ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare delivery, strengthen partnerships with international medical experts, and ensure that quality care is accessible to all citizens, regardless of location.

Crowning the day in Koidu was a goodwill gesture by the Vice President, Dr Mohammed Juldeh Jalloh, through the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, by donating several bags of rice to all volunteers at the Koidu Government Hospital.

The donation was warmly received as a symbol of appreciation for the commitment and hard work of healthcare volunteers who continue to support life-saving medical services in the district.
