According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), a forecast has warned of potential heavy rains and floods in Freetown over the coming days.

In its weather news update on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the BBC stated, “There is heavy rain towards the far west of Africa, which will affect mostly parts of Sierra Leone, Senegal, and Guinea-Bissau. Specifically, they will experience heavy rains of up to 150 millimeters over the next few days, which could lead to flooding.”

Similarly, the National Disaster Management Agency in Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency, has also issued an urgent public advisory warning of heavy rainfall forecasted to hit Sierra Leone over the next three days. The NDMA noted, “Heavy to moderate rainfall is expected across several parts of Sierra Leone, especially in the Northern and Western Regions.”

As a result, residents have been advised to observe key safety measures, including staying away from flooded areas and bridges, moving away from flood-prone communities to safer ground when necessary, keeping children indoors and away from water channels, taking steps to protect crops and livestock, and properly disposing of waste to avoid clogging drainages.

The NDMA has also urged concerned citizens to call their toll-free line 1199, available on all networks, for emergency assistance.
