Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to Ghana Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba on Friday 20th December presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo at his Jubilee House.
At the presentation ceremony, Kaisamba conveyed warm greetings from President Julius Maada Bio and the people of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Government and People of Ghana.
He congratulated the People of Ghana on conducting a successful election with a high display of patriotism.
The new High Commissioner went on to congratulate Ghana’s current Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchway on becoming the first African woman to become the 7th Secretary General of the Commonwealth.
He thanked President Akuffo-Addo for his government’s support during Sierra Leone’s candidacy to secure a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council for the 2024 to 2025 period.
Kaisamba highlighted the shared economic, political, and social objectives of both countries and their involvement and contributions to the African Union (AU), the United Nations (UN), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and the African, Caribbean, and Pacific Group of States (ACP).
The new envoy expressed his desire for both countries to revisit the “Joint Economic Cooperation Commission” to explore more opportunities for mutual benefits.
High Commissioner Mohammed Kaisamba expressed delight and eagerness to commence his diplomatic sojourn in Ghana and to fully engage formal and informal levels of government. He expressed his optimism about his assignment in Ghana and thanked President Akuffo-Ado for his support and the People of Ghana for welcoming him.
In response, President Akuffo-Addo thanked the Government and People of Sierra Leone for their support of the candidacy of Madame Shirley Ayokor Botchway in becoming the Secretary General of the Commonwealt, and further highlighted his country’s role in support of Sierra Leone’s bid to securing a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council.
The Ghanaian President highlighted the historical relationship between both nations and the pivotal role played by Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, in the education of some Ghanaians.
