Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, Minister of Technical and Higher Education, has publicly condemned the spread of false advertisements related to the Sierra Leone Grant-in-Aid (SLG) scholarship programs.
On August 22, 2024, Dr. Wurie took to Twitter to warn students about fraudulent schemes, emphasizing that accurate information regarding the scholarships should only be obtained from the Ministry’s official Facebook page.
The rise in fraudulent activities targeting students seeking educational opportunities has been a persistent issue in Freetown. Dr. Wurie highlighted the need for heightened vigilance, urging students to be cautious and rely solely on official sources to avoid falling victim to scams.
Dr. Wurie expressed her strong disapproval of these deceptive practices and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to safeguarding students from such threats.
She stressed the importance of verifying information through legitimate channels to prevent misinformation and protect the integrity of scholarship programs.
What the minister no want pull out SLG.
When lecturer speaks the hearts of the students find rest
When this SLG will be available madam minister, please tell us
Though my post may be unrelated to the SLG scam, this information is also important for the Minister of Higher and Technical Education. Students in higher educational institutions are breaking down under the yoke of financial exploitation from a large number of unethical lecturers. In my days at the university, it was very much uncommon for lecturers to use inept class representatives to collect money for assignments and tests before submission on behalf of lecturers, let alone to collect money from students as incentives before the end of year exams. No wonder products of our higher institutions nowadays have nothing or little to offer in their specialties after graduation. The same rottenness is transferred through our primary and secondary schools, undermining quality output. Madam Minister, get a serious investigative journalist and you will shock at the evidences.
