Preparations to welcome the former UN diplomat and SLPP Presidential hopeful, Alhaji Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella to Sierra Leone by his campaign group, the KKY Movement on Saturday are in top gear at the various campaign quarters in Freetown, up-country and including the Movement’s headquarters at Roxy Building, Walpole Street.
It is not yet known whether after the welcome ceremony at Lungi International Airport, Dr. Yumkella will travel straight to his home district of Kambia as being proposed by some senior members of KKY. What is clear though is that, during his three weeks stay in the country this time around, Dr. Yumkella will visit the Sierra Leone Peoples’ Party (SLPP) Head Quarters at Wallace Johnson Street in Freetown.
According to the National Coordinator of KKY Movement, Ambassador Fode Dabo who spoke to Global Times yesterday at his Roxy Building office during one of the planning meetings, the visit of the former UNIDO boss to the party office on Monday, 24th August 2015 was to pay a courtesy call on the party’s national executive and officers.
Furthermore, he said the visit will assure the doubting Thomases that Dr. Yumkella is a full-fledged member of the SLPP who is determined to contest the flagbearer election and ultimately the Presidential poll in 2018.
At the SLPP office, Lawyer Dabo said the flagbearer aspirant will address party supporters at the Unity Hall and remind all and sundry about the task in hand to take State House after the Presidential poll in 2018.
Ambassador Dabo also noted that as there are many cracks currently within the party, the former UN Diplomat will apply his diplomatic skills to not only mend some of the cracks but to also redesign the party and make it wholly electable.
“He will be here to join other stakeholders who are also making frantic efforts to galvanize all factions for peace to reign in the SLPP” Lawyer Dabo said.
