Member of Parliament, Honourable Abdul Karim Kamara (AKK) has launched a sharp criticism of President Julius Maada Bio’s administration, accusing it of neglecting the welfare of the nation’s security personnel.
In a strongly worded statement shared publicly, Hon. AKK called out the government over what he described as the “harsh economic realities” faced by members of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), noting that their monthly salaries remain unacceptably low despite rising living costs.
“Let somebody tell the SLPP chairman that the police and the military constitute the suffering masses. Their salaries are still less than sixty dollars ($60),” Hon. AKK stated.
The opposition lawmaker, who represents the All People’s Congress (APC), said the low wages reflect the government’s failure to prioritize those who defend and protect the nation, even as inflation, food prices, and transport costs continue to rise sharply.
He argued that while the government often boasts about progress in the economy, the reality on the ground tells a different story one where ordinary citizens, including civil servants and uniformed officers, struggle daily to make ends meet.
Hon. AKK also used the opportunity to remind the government of its moral and constitutional obligation to ensure fair compensation and improved living conditions for public servants. “When the men and women who risk their lives for national peace and security can’t afford basic needs, it sends a dangerous message about governance and priorities,” he added.
The statement has since generated heated debate on social media, with many Sierra Leoneans expressing frustration over the cost of living crisis and echoing calls for a comprehensive salary review across the public sector.

I remember when Joe Sesay was asked about the salaries and the rice supply for the police and the military he said:
We’re going to pay them good salaries, and for the rice supply, we’re going to continue not only with rice but also with condiments. This was the time when he was trying to convince people to move him from the opposition to the ruling life
I don’t know if he could remember that 🤔 😕
