Following heavy rains last night, a house on Owen Street, Mountain Cut in Freetown has collapsed resulting in considerable damage and loss of property. No death was recorded.
The location has been facing disasters as a similar incident happened in the same area in 2011 resulting in 13 deaths.
The Ward Councillor, Ibrahim S. Conteh was called to the site at 4:00 AM this morning as Freetown City Council is often among the first responders to disasters and communities look to the council’s support.
This disaster is yet another consequence of NO #UrbanPlanning and NO #BuildingControls in the city. FCC has been advocating for these functions to be devolved to local councils by the Ministry of Lands as stipulated in the Local Government Act 2004.
