Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, Deputy Speaker of Sierra Leone’s Parliament, has disclosed plans to transition into business after completing his parliamentary career in 2028, with a particular interest in the palm oil trade.

Speaking recently, the Deputy Speaker said that after serving a total of ten years as a Member of Parliament, he intends to shift focus to private enterprise, inspired by the vast economic opportunities he has observed in Kailahun District.

“After serving as a Member of Parliament for ten years, come 2028, I will embark on business. I have seen many viable business opportunities in Kailahun, especially in the palm oil trade,” Hon. Conteh stated.

He noted that agriculture and agro-based enterprises remain critical drivers of economic growth and job creation, particularly in rural communities. According to him, investments in ventures such as palm oil processing could significantly enhance local development, create employment opportunities, and strengthen household incomes.

Hon. Conteh added that his decision reflects a broader desire to remain productive and economically engaged after public service, while also contributing to the growth of indigenous businesses and value-chain development in Sierra Leone.

He emphasized that empowering local entrepreneurs and investing in agriculture-based industries would play a vital role in strengthening the national economy and promoting sustainable development.
