The newly appointed and decorated Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu on the state Decorations day with the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) thrilled audience as he offered a brief touching speech.

The new IGP on his speech took audience to memory lane of 29 years back. William Fayia Sellu whose father was a police officer told people his encounter with the President Maada Bio at FSSG. During those years, William was a teacher by then.

On a meeting with Maada Bio then as the Vice Chairman of the then NPRC, William Fayia Sellu was engaged by Maada Bio and convinced him to enlist into the army. Since the father of William was a police officer, the son chose his dad’s footsteps.

As a recruit at the Police Training School (PTS), the then Vice Chairman of the NPRC paid a visit to William Fayia Sellu. As nobody knows the future, so also William Fayia Sellu who never knew that 29 years later, the same President that visited him at the Police Training School would be the one again decorating him as the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

With feelings mixed with ecstasy and sadness, the newly decorated IGP Expressed his appreciations to the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Brigadier Julius Maada Bio (Rtd).

On his very own words, William Fayia Sellu said:

29 years ago, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio engaged me at the FSSG where I was a teacher and convinced me to enlist into the army, I said my Father was a Police man and I would like to enlist as a Police officer. He said he had no problem with that. As a recruit at the police training school, His Excellency who was the Vice Chairman then NPRC visited me as a recruit at the police training school. Never knew that 29 years later, this same president that visited me at the police training school is here again this time, decorating me as the Inspector General of Police. I thank you very Your Excellency.”  Sellu mentioned
