The Institute for Governance Reform (IGR), in partnership with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED), has officially launched the Local Council Development Plans, a major initiative aimed at strengthening citizen participation, improving accountability, and enhancing service delivery at the local level.
The initiative, funded by the World Bank, seeks to promote inclusive, responsive, and people-centred governance across Sierra Leone. The launch event brought together local council representatives and government officials, who reaffirmed their collective commitment to advancing effective local governance systems.

Speaking at the event, stakeholders emphasised the importance of engaging citizens in decision-making processes to ensure that development plans reflect the real needs and priorities of communities. They noted that the Local Council Development Plans would serve as a strategic framework to guide councils in delivering essential services more efficiently and transparently.
