Former Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Samuel Sam-Sumana in a press release stated that the unfortunate incident that happened on Sunday 26th November 2023 has put Sierra Leone again in the ugly eyes of the international community.

The release stated that Sierra Leone is at a crossroads facing another belligerent challenge to its fragile democracy, good governance, and the Rule of Law.

It continued that Sierra Leone has had a very difficult past, especially with the unenviable eleven-year civil war that took away the lives of over 45,000 Sierra Leoneans, destroyed properties, and left behind the unimaginable trauma that citizens have been struggling to put behind them.

A quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was used in which he referred to his firm conviction which reads “morality cannot be regulated. Judicial decrees may not change the heart, but they can restrain the heartless”.

The release ends by stating that acknowledging the reality that peace cannot be merely achieved on distant goals that people seek but with patriotism which is a means through which a nation could arrive at its destination.
