During a recent press briefing in the Parliament’s Conference Room, Sierra Leone’s Majority Leader, Mathew Nyuma, and Information and Civic Education Minister, Chernor Bah, discussed the ongoing debate over the return of suspended Clerk Paran Tarawally to Parliament.
Nyuma explained that Tarawally’s suspension followed serious allegations and a thorough investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which led to administrative actions against him.
He highlighted that Tarawally’s suspension, without salary, reflects the severity of the situation, noting that his wife faced a five-year ban due to her involvement, while the embezzled funds were fully recovered.
Minister Bah addressed concerns about whether additional punitive measures were needed beyond the suspension and financial penalties already imposed.
He defended the government’s stance, arguing that the current measures were fair and proportional to the offenses, and questioned the necessity of further public retribution.

This country is really sad.
In law worldwide, nobody is punished twice for the same offence. The Clark of Parliament has been suspended without salary for an offence he did not commit. What else do people want the government or judiciary to do to the Clark of parliament ?
I think an element of hatred is now creeping into this whole affair. The man should be allowed to resume duties without any hindrance.
