A team of young Sierra Leonean entrepreneurs is transforming the future of digital education by developing an innovative offline solution aimed at bridging the learning gap in underserved communities.
Lovetta Bangura, one of the co-founders of EasySTEM an EdTech institution founded by three college students who are now engineers and former participants of Dr. Moinina Sengeh’s Engineering Entrepreneurship and Innovation class proudly represented Sierra Leone by presenting the “Digital Learning Hub in a Bag” at the ECOWAS Human Capital Development Conference in Accra, Ghana.
The portable offline hub is designed to deliver high-quality digital learning content to children and schools in areas with poor connectivity and limited infrastructure. It addresses critical barriers to education, ensuring that learning continues even in the most remote locations.
The idea for the solution emerged from the founders’ own challenges in accessing educational materials online. This led them to investigate the issue further and develop the EasySTEM Server, which enables offline access to educational content a solution that has earned both local and international recognition.
Following a successful pilot of the EasySTEM Server and data-driven insights from field implementation, the team advanced their work by developing an all-in-one, portable solution: the Offline Digital Learning Hub in a Bag. It has already been deployed across five districts in collaboration with UNICEF, DSTI, and the Peace Corps.
At the conference in Accra, Chief Minister Dr. Moinina Sengeh reconnected with his former student, Lovetta Bangura. Reflecting on the team’s journey, he stated:
“I am super proud of Lovetta Bangura, my former student who co-founded EasySTEM with others from my Engineering Entrepreneurship and Innovation class. With support from DSTI, UNICEF, and the Peace Corps, their ‘Digital Learning Hub in a Bag’ an offline, portable innovation designed to bring high-quality digital education to remote communities regardless of connectivity or infrastructure is already impacting lives in Sierra Leone. They are delivering.”
The portable innovation developed by the EasySTEM team is a testament to the power of youth-driven solutions, local innovation, and the importance of investing in educational access for all.
