The video that entails legal opinion that landed legal practitioner and former Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Ady Macauley in police custody has surfaced online.
On Thursday morning, Lawyer Macauley was invited to report at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in order to answer questions over his legal opinion shared on AYV television. He was later detained.
According to the former ACC Commissioner, no individual in the country needs permission to protest. He was referring to the ‘Black Tuesday’ protest by Sierra Leonean women against the economic hardship in the country, and the former Inspector General of Sierra Leone Police, Ambrose Sovula.
Several of the women were arrested in the course of the protest action, which Lawyer Macauley referred to as unlawful, arguing that the Constitution of Sierra Leone makes provision for freedom of assembly.
