His Excellency, Sadati Amiri the Iranian Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone has today, Tuesday 13th September 2022 paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament, Hon. Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu in his Chambers at Tower Hill, Parliament Building Freetown.
The purpose of the Ambassador’s visit was predicated on strengthening the bilateral relations between the Parliaments of two countries.
The Iranian Ambassador expressed thanks and appreciation on behalf of the People of Iran regarding the bilateral relationship between Sierra Leone and their country. He expressed gratitude for granting him permission to visit to the Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament during parliamentary recess and underscored the need for cordial relationship between both Parliaments.
He said to foster a good relationship between Sierra Leone and Iran, the Iranian Parliament had already set up a Parliamentary working group to work with the Sierra Leone Parliament about legislation and friendship. He informed that, both Parliaments would strengthen bilateral relationship on economic and technical cooperation over time.
The Iranian Ambassador assured the Speaker of Parliament of their Parliament’s support to the Parliament of Sierra Leone through capacity building programmes and conveyed goodwill messages from the Speaker of Iranian Parliament to the People of Sierra Leone.
Responding, Hon. Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu, Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament, said currently the Parliament is on its annual recess and underscored the need for cooperation between Iranian and Sierra Leone Parliaments.
The Speaker assured that immediately after Parliament returned from recess, he would set up a Sierra Leone Parliamentary Working Group with the Iranian Parliament with the view to strengthening continued bilateral relationship between the two Parliaments.
Hon. Abass Chernor Bundu said he would ensure that both Parliamentary groups meet and discuss bilateral and effective Parliamentary relations.
The Speaker appreciated their visit and promised to engage the Iranian Speaker of Parliament next month in Kigali, Rwanda at the IPU conference to strengthen the relationship between the two Parliaments.
