Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, accompanied by the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, and other senior government officials, has toured ongoing tourism infrastructure projects at the Tacugama Innovation Centre and the Leicester Peak Viewing Deck, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening Sierra Leone’s tourism sector.
During the tour, Dr. Jalloh commended the scale and quality of the developments, describing them as critical investments in the country’s growing ecotourism landscape. He praised the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, the Sierra Leone Economic Diversification Project (SLEDP), and contractors for their dedication and professionalism, noting that the projects reflect a strong vision to position Sierra Leone as a competitive and sustainable tourism destination.
The Vice President also emphasized the importance of protecting these national assets, with ministers responsible for Internal Affairs, Environment, and the Western Region present to underscore the government’s commitment to safeguarding the sites.

In her remarks, Minister Nabeela Farida Tunis thanked the Vice President for his continued support and leadership. She noted that the projects are a testament to the government’s deliberate efforts to reposition tourism as a driver of economic growth.
She assured that the Ministry, working closely with SLEDP and partners, remains committed to timely completion and maintaining high standards, adding that the facilities will enhance visitor experiences and create opportunities for Sierra Leoneans.
The projects form part of the Sierra Leone Economic Diversification Project (SLEDP), supported by the World Bank, which aims to reduce reliance on extractive industries by developing sustainable tourism assets.

The Tacugama Innovation Centre is being developed as a comprehensive ecotourism hub, featuring a cinema, conference and training spaces, a library/resource centre, and nature-based attractions. At Leicester Peak, upgrades to the viewing deck are expected to enhance its appeal as a premier recreational site, offering panoramic views of Freetown for both locals and international visitors.
