Former Presidential flagbearer of the All People’s Congress (APC) party, Samura Kamara has reaffirmed his commitment to participate in the June 2023 elections.
The former Minister of Finance confirmed his commitment on Wednesday 11 January amid speculations of disqualification due to the ongoing corruption trial he is involved in.
While addressing councillors, mayors and chairpersons at the gathering in Makeni, the APC Presidential flagbearer aspirant pledged not to meddle into local politics if he is elected as president of the country.
Kamara noted that he does not belong to any faction of the party but that he believes that the party is “one big family.”
The main opposition APC party is yet to choose a presidential flagbearer for the forthcoming elections with so many big names in the party vying for the top job including Kaifala Marah, Alimamy Petito Koroma and Alfred Paolo Conteh-all being former cabinet ministers in the Koroma administration.
Meanwhile, the Political Parties Registration commission (PPRC) cancelled several of the party’s lower-level elections after receiving over 30 petitions. The commission ordered a rerun of the said elections in several constituencies.
