The trial of Samura Kamara, the presidential candidate of Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC) in the recently concluded elections will resume today in Freetown.

The case: The State Vs Saidu NALLO, Adikali Foday Suma, Foday Vahfomba Bawoh, Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara, Kandeh Foday Basil Kamara & Jules Sanders Davis before Justice Adrian Fisher will resume on Friday, 14th July 2023.VENUE: Court No.11. 1:00 am prompt,” a notice by the Judiciary of Sierra Leone states.

According to the Anti-Corruption Commission of Sierra Leone (ACC), Dr. Samura Matthew Wilson Kamara is charged with one count of deceiving a principal and One count of misappropriation of public funds amounting to Two Million, Five Hundred and Sixty Thousand United States Dollars ($2,560,000) meant for the reconstruction of the Sierra Leone Chancery Building in New York.

Kamara had long denied the allegations and claimed that the case was politically motivated to tarnish the good image and reputation he has nurtured over the years.

Samura Kamara was President Julius Maada Bio’s main challenger in the June 24 elections. Bio secured victory by polling over 56 percent of the votes to avoid a run-off against Kamara, who polled about 41 gr.

However, the opposition politician was quick to reject the election results. “These results are NOT credible and I categorically reject the outcome so announced by the electoral commission,” he stated on Twitter shortly after the announcement of the presidential results by the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed Konneh.
