Dr. Samura Matthew Wilson Kamara, the former leader and 2023 Presidential Candidate of the All People’s Congress (APC), has congratulated the Sierra Leone women’s national football team, known as the Sierra Queens, for their remarkable achievement in the inaugural WAFU Zone A Women’s Cup.
The team secured a historic 1-0 victory against Senegal in the final match held on May 31, 2025.
Kamara expressed immense pride and joy, stating, “Today, with immense pride and patriotic joy, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our beloved Sierra Leone women’s national football team, the indomitable Sierra Queens, for their magnificent and historic triumph.”
He affirmed that the victory is not merely a sporting achievement; it signifies Sierra Leonean excellence, unity, and potential on a continental level.
Showcasing the exceptional performance of the players, Kamara particularly praised goalkeeper Hannah Juana, who was awarded both the Best Player and Best Goalkeeper titles for her outstanding contributions throughout the tournament. “Hannah, you have not only guarded our goal but also guarded our dreams and today, you stand as a national icon of excellence and grace,” he remarked.
Captain Salamatu Kamara also received special recognition for her pivotal role in the tournament. Kamara noted her decisive goal in the semi-final against Mali, which propelled Sierra Leone into its first WAFU final. “Your unwavering leadership, discipline, and fighting spirit were the heartbeat of this team,” he said, acknowledging her contributions to the team’s success.
The coach, Hassan Malik Mansaray, was commended for his strategic guidance and leadership. “You are the architect of this glorious victory, and your contribution will be remembered for generations,” Dr. Kamara stated, affirming the unity and resilience displayed by the team under his direction.
Kamara concluded by extending his gratitude to every player, technical staff member, and supporter, emphasizing their collective effort in showcasing Sierra Leone’s potential. “You have inspired our daughters to dream, our youth to believe, and our nation to unite.
