Reports are that the Chairman and Leader of Alliance Democratic Party (ADP), Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, who is answering to the charge of sexual penetration in a Freetown High Court presided by Justice Samuel Taylor, has been diagnosed with severe health condition that needs urgent attention.
The deteriorating condition of the former ADP presidential candidate in the 2018 national elections has become topical in most quarters that believe the politician will die in remand if not flown abroad immediately for treatment.
The crime which Kamarainba allegedly committed could be very grave as far as law is concerned, but for humanitarian factor, it stands to reason that the Government, especially the Judiciary of Sierra Leone, tempers justice with mercy by granting him bail unconditionally to enable him travel abroad for medical treatment. Reports are that Kamarainba’s new medical examination report diagnosed protracted illness that could only be treated successfully abroad.
According to medical examination conducted on Kamarainba, he has now been diagnosed with chronic inflammation of the prostate gland called in medical terms chronic prostatitis and that the ultra sound scan showed that his prostate gland appears to have enlarged in size.
A medical expert says his illness could be treated with antibiotics and (TURP Surgery) Transurethral Resection of the Prostate which could not be done in the patient’s present location. The findings were reportedly backed by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Rev. Canon Dr. Thomas Samba.
In effect, Kamarainba is seriously sick according to medical doctors who have examined him and his sickness will worsen if he is not released from prison to travel abroad for medical attention, especially when a specialist physician in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) has discovered hypertension with a possible damage of heart, kidney, prostate cancer among other illnesses.
If the Government does not believe the medical reports on Kamarainba which have been published again and again, it would be relevant for Government to set up an independent medical team to re-examine the ADP Chairman and Leader to ascertain the veracity of those medical reports. If it is confirmed that the medical reports are genuine, the Government should release him immediately on humanitarian ground to travel abroad for medical treatment.
Though no one is above the law, Kamarainba’s case should be treated on humanitarian grounds because he is seriously sick and needs to be flown abroad for medical treatment. His crime may be very grave but Government should not let him die in prison because he is a national stakeholder and has a large following who are capable of blackmailing the Bio administration should he die in prison.
