Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, after arriving from Conakry, Guinea, went directly to the Kingtom 161 Power Station to meet with engineers and check on preparations ahead of the expected Karpowership shutdown at midnight.

During the visit, Dr. Yumkella spoke with engineers at the facility. He asked about the steps being taken to keep electricity flowing in Freetown once Karpowership goes off the grid. The engineers said the power station is ready to continue supplying power to the city.

Although the reason for his Guinea trip will be shared later, his first action upon arrival was to focus on the electricity situation.

His visit came at a time when many residents are following developments around the power supply in the capital, with concerns about possible blackouts. Freetown depends on steady electricity, and the shutdown of Karpowership has brought increased attention to backup plans.

The Kingtom 161 Power Station is one of the sites expected to help maintain power in the city during the transition. Engineers confirmed that the plant is operational and prepared to support the grid once the disconnection takes place.
