In response to the recent corruption investigation surrounding the Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Paran Umar Tarawalley, and his wife, Mrs. Abibatu Tarawally, Honourable Abdul Kargbo, leader  of the main opposition All Peoples Congress Party (APC) has expressed his astonishment at the alleged misuse of office.

The Anti-Corruption Commission’s Press Release dated January 14, 2024, disclosed an ongoing investigation into claims that the Clerk of Parliament engaged his wife in employment without adhering to due processes. The investigation also revealed that Mrs. Abibatu Tarawally has not been fulfilling her duties while continuing to receive a monthly salary.

Reacting to these revelations, Kargbo asserted his surprise and interpreted the repayment made to the Anti-Corruption Commission as an acknowledgment of guilt on the part of the Clerk of Parliament.

“I am shocked at the revelations of abuse of office by the Clerk of Parliament. The repayment at ACC indicates an admission of guilt. To preserve the sanctity of parliament and to spare the House further embarrassment, I ask that he steps aside to allow the ACC to conclude its work,” remarked Kargbo.

In light of these developments, the opposition figure called for the Clerk of Parliament to voluntarily step aside during the ongoing ACC investigation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity of the parliamentary institution and avoiding further embarrassment for the legislative body.
