As the festive season approaches, the Kenema division of the Sierra Leone Police has reactivated workable security measures to protect citizens in the city and district.

Crime assessments have shown that criminals tend to commit crimes during the festive seasons, and the police are taking proactive measures to save lives and property.

The Community Relations Department and the Operations Department of Kenema Division have collaborated to organize security meetings in Cambuwabu and Heigbwema Communities. The meetings involved community stakeholders and other relevant individuals to get everyone on board with the security efforts.

Sub-Inspector Brima James Musa, Head of Community Relations Department (CRD) Eastern Region, said the purpose of the meetings was to find effective ways to combat crime and alleviate the fears of communities within Kenema City and its surroundings. He emphasized that community policing has greatly contributed to the reduction of crime in the past years, as it enables prompt information sharing between the police and community members regarding criminal activity in their areas.

Inspector Mohamed Corneh, operations officer of kenema division, called on everyone present to see security as a collective effort and that the police rely heavily on the community for information and prompt action.

Chief Bindi of Cambuwabu expressed great concern over the security situation and assured the police of a collaborative effort to achieve the security goal. He pleaded with the police to erect a post in his community to help curb crime.

The police are urging the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police. They are also advising people to take precautions to protect their property, such as locking their homes and cars.

The police are committed to working with the community to make Kenema a safe and secure place to live, work, and visit during the festive season.
