A teacher at the Kenema Government Secondary School was arrested during a drug raid carried out by the Transnational Organised Crime Unit.

The operation took place in the afternoon, around 1:50 PM, and was led by Detective Sergeant 9441 Kamara. The arrest followed actionable intelligence received by law enforcement, leading officers directly to the scene.

The individual arrested has been identified as Ishmael Kallon of #5 Hassanatu Street. He is a registered, PIN-coded secondary school teacher known to be working at the Kenema Government Secondary School. During the raid, police officers reportedly discovered 31 polythene bags and 20 sachets containing substances believed to be Kush, a dangerous synthetic drug that has been spreading rapidly across communities in Sierra Leone.

Eyewitnesses who were nearby at the time of the arrest observed Kallon as appearing physically weak and unsteady. Some believe this may be due to prolonged drug use, although no confirmation has been given on his condition. The suspect was immediately taken into custody, and police say that a formal statement is currently being obtained from him as part of ongoing investigations.

This arrest comes at a time when the drug trade continues to pose serious challenges in Kenema. From the central parts of the city to its outskirts, Kush and other illegal substances are reportedly being trafficked and sold in large quantities. Several areas are known for having drug dens that remain open throughout the day and night. Some of these locations are believed to be operating with the protection of individuals within the law enforcement system. In certain cases, officers are alleged to be either directly involved in the drug trade or offering shelter to those who are.

The region has previously seen efforts to confront these problems. Assistant Inspector General of Police, Francis Moses Tower, who was recently transferred from his post, had focused on targeting narcotics and drug-related activity. Many people in the community have remembered his approach as being similar to that of former AIG Alfred Karrow Kamara, who was known for his involvement in law enforcement operations during his time in the region.

Despite these efforts, Kenema continues to face the daily impact of Kush-related harm. Deaths caused by the drug are frequently reported, especially tied to Kush, a synthetic drug responsible for severe health issues and overdose. Families across the city have been affected, and concern continues to grow as the problem spreads among young people and adults alike.

Authorities have not yet released further information on Kallon’s charges or court appearance. The investigation remains active, and more details are expected as the case develops.
