The Kennedy Street Market Traders Association has praised SLRSA Executive Director James Bagie Bio for his road safety efforts.
The traders visited the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) compound on Wednesday, August 19, accompanied by a band, portrait and banner bearing Bio’s image, to publicly recognise his work.
Speaking on behalf of the association, Public Relations Officer Alhassan Kamara said the traders had followed Bio’s work and observed what they described as positive changes in road safety across the country.
Kamara said the association had particularly noticed a reduction in road traffic accidents and improvements in the movement and clearance of roads.

The visit also served as an opportunity for the traders to recognise Bio’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly in July.
Receiving the delegation, Bio thanked the traders for the gesture and said he was “short of words” to adequately express his appreciation.
He said the SLRSA would also work to remove stationary trucks from the area, describing them as potential obstructions and hazards to road users.
“I am happy that you recognised my work. This has given me more confidence and motivated me to do more,” Bio said.
The executive director said traders are among the groups frequently exposed to road traffic incidents because they regularly operate around roads and roadside spaces.

He attributed reported improvements in road safety during the current rainy season to increased engagement, public sensitisation and enforcement of road safety regulations.
Bio also urged drivers to avoid alcohol and drugs before driving and called for continued cooperation among traders, motorists, pedestrians, transport unions and other stakeholders to improve road safety.
The SLRSA executive director reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to working with stakeholders as part of efforts to protect lives on Sierra Leone’s roads.
