Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, has arrived in Spain for an official visit accompanied by popular musician and Peace Ambassador, Alhaji Amadu Bah, popularly known as King Boss La (LAJ).
The trip marks a significant milestone in the rehabilitation and reintegration of the hip-hop artist, transforming his public narrative from a former inmate to a state-recognized peace advocate involved in high-level diplomatic engagements.
Confirming the development, Chief Minister Sengeh described the artist’s presence on the delegation as a testament to the power of second chances and “Radical Inclusion.”
“Today, he’s with me on an official trip to Spain. Not as a prisoner, or someone defined by his past, but as someone who actually inspires me,” Dr. Sengeh stated.
Reflecting on their history, the Chief Minister recounted a relationship that began years ago during a tour of the Pademba Road Correctional Centre. Sengeh revealed that during the failed coup attempt—when prison doors were breached and inmates fled—LAJ sought him out specifically for protection, not to escape justice, but to ensure a safe surrender.
“His first point of call was me. He believed I could protect him. He didn’t want to run away. He wanted to comply. He turned himself in to the prison after everything calmed down,” Sengeh explained.
Following the incident, LAJ was eventually granted a Presidential Pardon by President Julius Maada Bio and subsequently appointed as a Peace Ambassador. Since his release, the RFM boss has been actively engaged in community outreach and peacebuilding initiatives.
Dr. Sengeh praised the artist’s evolution, describing him as a “leader” and “deep thinker” who is actively shaping peace in his community.
“Love him or hate him, he is expanding our mindsets,” Sengeh noted. “He is an example of why I believe in Radical Inclusion—everyone must have an opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential.”
