Workers at Koidu Holdings Limited are hopeful for improved conditions following a peaceful protest on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, and the subsequent intervention of Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Dr. Fatima Jabbie Maada Bio.
Dr. Bio announced that Koidu Holdings has pledged to provide a formal letter addressing the workers’ demands, which include improved working conditions and better services.
This announcement follows a demonstration where employees voiced strong calls for union recognition, increased salaries, overtime pay, and access to safe drinking water.
The First Lady emphasized her commitment to remaining in Kono until the workers’ demands are met. “If we do not receive a satisfactory response by the end of the day, we will have no choice but to peacefully storm Koidu Holdings Limited tomorrow,” she stated, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
Dr. Bio urged workers to remain calm and maintain peace while awaiting the company’s response. She also called for unity between workers and management, stressing that the protest aims to improve service conditions without creating animosity.
“Our aim is not to nurture grudges or create discord within our community; rather, we seek to enhance the conditions of service for each and every one of you,” she said.
If the company cannot meet the demands of the public.. Then what’s the need for their operations.?
At least Mrs Bio has set a good president..
The interest of the people should be above every company’s interest..
I am impressed… with her Excellency…
