Thousands of staunch supporters in both Koinadugu and Falaba Districts have allegedly voiced their demand for the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) leadership to hand over the 2028 flag bearer position to former Minister of   Finance and Bank Governor, Dr. Kaifala Marah.

The supporters also allegedly appealed directly to erstwhile National Chairman and Leader, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, the Current National Chairman, Alhajı Minkailu Mansaray, and the entire National Advisory Committee (NAC) to endorse their request.

This development, according to sources, took place on 28th December 2024, during a jogging event organized by Dr. Kaifala Marah and his staunch supporters in Kabala Township

Addressing the issue, a concerned APC member in the United States, who preferred anonymity, averred that the APC is a democratic party governed by the principles enshrined in its 2022 Constitution, noting that the era of selection is over The APC stalwart emphasized that all positions in the party, including the flagbearer position, are determined through elections by the delegates, adding that neither the current National Chairman nor former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma holds the authority to unilaterally grant the flagbearer position to someone

“If Dr. Kaifala Marah aspires to lead the APC, he must campaign and earn the trust of the delegates rather than encourage divisive rhetoric,” the APCian said, adding, “He must also recognize that Koinadugu and Falaba Districts alone cannot secure the flagbearer position to him.”

The party stalwart further alleged that during the jogging event, Dr. Kaifala Marah’s supporters made statements including threats of unrest if he is not chosen as flagbearer, adding that those statements are deeply troubling and have the potential to undermine the unity of APC.

“Such rhetoric is not befitting of someone who claims to have the party’s interest at heart,” the party stalwart said.
