The Government of the Republic of Korea, through the World Food Programme (WFP), has donated 1,800 metric tonnes of rice, valued at approximately USD 2 million, to support Sierra Leone’s Free Quality School Education (FQSE) initiative.

The rice, handed over yesterday, will provide daily nutritious meals to over 106,000 pupils across Bonthe, Kenema, Kambia, and Pujehun districts. The School Feeding Programme, a flagship component of the FQSE, aims to keep children healthy, motivated, and in school, reinforcing President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to ensuring education is both a right and a priority.

Representing the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) at the ceremony was Mr. Augustine Koroma, National Coordinator for Free Quality Education. The event also drew the participation of Mr. Andrew Odero, WFP Country Representative, and the Counsellor of the Korean Embassy, among other partners.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry, Mr. Koroma extended heartfelt appreciation to the Government and People of the Republic of Korea for their generosity and solidarity.

“This contribution is more than food; it is a daily vote of confidence in every Sierra Leonean child’s potential,” he said.

The collaboration underscores Sierra Leone’s Human Capital Development Agenda under President Bio, aimed at building a healthier, smarter, and stronger nation—one meal, one child, and one classroom at a time.
