Addicts of Kush, a potent synthetic drug, from the Grafton Community have made an emotional appeal to the Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai Esq, requesting medical treatment and support to return to football.

Highlighting the recent positive transformation in Sierra Leone’s sports sector, especially in football, the youths praised Dr. Abdulai’s leadership, which they believe has made sports an attractive and viable path for personal development.

This plea was voiced during an event organized by Batilo Kokofala, a young aspiring politician and dedicated community servant. Kokofala arranged a football match aimed at educating the youth about the detrimental effects of drug abuse. The event provided a platform for the youths to share their heart-wrenching experiences with Kush addiction, leaving the audience deeply moved and calling for immediate action to address the rampant issue of drug abuse in their community.

The youths expressed their belief that with a focused vision and dedicated leadership in sports, they can overcome their current challenges and make meaningful contributions to society. They acknowledged Dr. Abdulai’s commitment to promoting healthy sports practices and his proactive stance on anti-doping measures, hoping that his support could significantly aid their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

Dr. Abdulai, known for his vigorous efforts to promote clean sports, has recently been engaged with various sporting associations to combat doping and ensure fair play. The addicts’ appeal to him underscores the broader role sports can play in social rehabilitation and community development.

The National Sports Authority, established by an Act of Parliament, holds the mandate to promote, encourage, develop, and supervise all sports and sporting activities in Sierra Leone. The NSA’s involvement in this issue is crucial, as it aligns with their broader mission to use sports as a tool for positive change and development.

It is hoped that Dr. Abdulai’s intervention will not only provide the necessary medical and psychological support for these youths but also help create an enabling environment where they can thrive and inspire others in their community to follow a path of recovery and success.
