One Maada Kamara, aged 25, a laborer, made his first appearance before Magistrate Peter Gogra of the Pademba Road Court No.6 in Freetown on four counts of conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to law, wounding with intent contrary to Section 18 of the Offences Against the Persons Act 1861, wounding contrary to Section 20 of the Offences Against the Persons Act 1861 and assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to Section 47 of the Offences Against the Persons Act 1861.

According to the particulars of offence, on Monday, 11th July, 2022, at Sankey Street, Brookfields in Freetown, the accused conspired together with other persons unknown to commit a felony to wit wounding with intent.

It was alleged that the accused person maliciously wounded and assaulted Mohamed Kamara in a manner thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.

The charges were read and explained to the accused person, but no plea was taken.

C.A Thomas representing the accused person applied for bail, stating that the accused person is a Sierra Leonean resident within the jurisdiction and that he has reliable sureties who were willing and ready to enter into recognisance on his behalf.

He submitted that he will not interfere with prosecution witness or witnesses and that he will not jump bail.

However, Magistrate Gogra granted the accused person bail in the sum of twenty million Leones with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that the sureties should be resident in the Western Area and that they must produce valid identity cards depicting their addresses in Freetown.

He ordered that one of the sureties should be gainfully employed and that the bail must be approved by the Bench.

The matter was adjourned to the 17th August 2022 for further hearing.
