Former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Lahai Lawrence Leema, recently opened up about his feelings following his removal from office, admitting that he initially “felt a little bad” about the decision but later came to see it as a positive step.

In a candid conversation, Leema explained that his dismissal from the position, though painful at first, was ultimately beneficial, as he faced growing opposition from individuals who sought to undermine his efforts and tarnish his reputation.

Leema, who served as Deputy Minister under President Julius Maada Bio’s administration, stated that some individuals had been twisting his good deeds to create a false narrative, regularly lodging complaints against him with the President. These complaints, according to Leema, contributed to the decision to remove him from his post.

Despite the challenges, Leema emphasized his continued respect for President Bio, stating, “He is still my President,” and reaffirming his commitment to the administration.

He revealed that he regularly sends text messages to the President, especially regarding important issues that require attention, although he acknowledged that the President does not always respond. “I know he reads them,” Leema added, highlighting that the communication between them remains open.

Reflecting on the period following his removal, Leema expressed that, with time, he recognized the wisdom behind the leadership’s decision to part ways. He noted that the “distractors” who were working to damage his image were a significant factor in his reassessment. “There were too many people trying to tarnish my image, even though I was doing my best in my role,” he remarked.
