Sierra Leone has taken a major step toward expanding access to clean energy as Minister of Finance Sheku A. F. Bangura signed a lease agreement for a 40-megawatt (MW) solar power project with Release by Scatec.

The agreement represents a key milestone in the government’s efforts to transform the energy sector and improve electricity supply nationwide.

Officials said the project aligns with President Julius Maada Bio’s national agenda to modernize energy infrastructure and promote sustainable development.

“This project reflects the government’s commitment to delivering on its energy promises,” officials stated during the signing ceremony.

The solar lease project is expected to support the country’s economic growth by providing reliable and affordable power, while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

President Bio has consistently emphasized investment in renewable energy and infrastructure as central to improving the quality of life for Sierra Leoneans.

The signing is therefore seen as another step toward achieving those goals.
