A delegation of students from Liberia’s Gabriel L. Denis Foreign Service Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently concluded an insightful tour of the Sierra Leone Parliament.
This visit marks a significant step toward strengthening cross-border relations and fostering future diplomatic partnerships between the two nations.
The study tour aimed to give aspiring Liberian diplomats a firsthand experience of parliamentary procedures, governance, and legislative operations in Sierra Leone. It served as an important platform for practical learning and mutual understanding.
Receiving the delegation, Deputy Clerk of Parliament Gilbert Bosco N’habay warmly welcomed the students on behalf of Sierra Leone’s legislative body. He provided an in-depth overview of the functions, structure, and legislative agenda of Sierra Leone’s House of Representatives, with a particular focus on the current sixth Parliament.
Highlights of the visit included an observational session inside the Chamber of Parliament, where lawmakers were engaged in their daily legislative business. The delegation also visited the gravesites of Sierra Leone’s first and second Prime Ministers, Sir Milton Magai and Siaka P. Stevens, as well as the entire parliamentary precinct.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, the head of the Liberian delegation described the tour as an invaluable component of their practical training, emphasizing its importance for their future diplomatic careers.
Officials from both countries lauded the visit as a positive development for the Mano River Union (MRU) integration efforts. They highlighted that such exchanges among future leaders are crucial for deepening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Sierra Leone and Liberia.
This engaging visit underscores the ongoing commitment to fostering regional unity and shared progress through meaningful diplomatic engagement.
