Local Court Chairmen across the country have expressed frustration and disappointment over the central government’s failure to pay their salaries for the past year.
According to the Chairmen, they were initially under the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs but were later transferred to the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice.
Despite this transition, they claim their salaries have been withheld, making it increasingly difficult to fulfill their responsibilities.
They emphasized that their role in the dispensation of justice at the local level is crucial, and the government’s failure to pay them could undermine their work.
“The failure of the government to pay our salaries is affecting our ability to perform effectively. We play an important role in delivering justice at the grassroots level,” one of the Chairmen stated.
Highlighting their challenges, they stressed that the non-payment of salaries has impacted their ability to provide for their families and cover their children’s educational expenses.
“We have families to take care of, and the cost of educating our children is becoming increasingly difficult without our salaries,” another Chairman lamented.
The Local Court Chairmen are now calling on the relevant authorities to urgently address their concerns, as their livelihoods depend on these salaries.
