The Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs (MLGCA) has issued a clarification regarding rumors of an upcoming leadership transition within the Port Loko District Council.

In an official press statement released on Friday, February 20, 2026, the Ministry addressed what it termed “alleged notices” circulating on social media. These claims, reportedly spearheaded by Madam Fatmata Kamara, a Councillor of the Port Loko District Council, suggested that a date had been set for the inauguration of a new Chairman and the election of a Deputy Chairman.

The Ministry states unequivocally that it has not convened any meeting, issued any directive, or approved any date for such processes in the Port Loko District Council. No. Official correspondence or authorization has been issued by the Ministry regarding these claims.

According to the Press Release, all matters concerning the election or inauguration of council leadership are governed strictly by the Local Government Act (as amended) and must follow established legal and administrative procedures with the approval of the appropriate authorities.

Additionally, the Ministry of Local Government clarifies that “the succession procedures previously conducted in the Kenema District Council following the passing of its Chairman were undertaken lawfully and with full Ministry authorization.”

The Ministry therefore dismisses the claims that any notice or arrangements have been made for elections or inaugurations in Port Loko. Councillors, stakeholders, and the public are urged to rely only on verified official communications and to refrain from circulating unverified information that may cause confusion.

The Ministry of Local Government reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, legality, and the orderly administration of local councils nationwide.
