Magistrate Santigie Bangura presided over a larceny case on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, involving Santigie Kamara, a former cashier at the Golden Beach Casino. The court heard allegations that Kamara stole betting chips valued at over six hundred thousand new Leones (NLe 600,000) from the casino.
Kamara faces charges of larceny by servant, contrary to Section 17(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916. The prosecution alleges that between April and July 2024, Kamara misappropriated betting chips valued at six hundred seventy-nine thousand, five hundred ninety Leones (NLe 679,590), which belonged to the Golden Beach Casino.
During the proceedings, Prosecutor CPS Joan Bull presented key evidence, including testimony from Mohamed Omar Kamara, the Human Resources Manager at the casino. He testified about the casino’s operations, specifically the issuance and tracking of betting chips, and highlighted discrepancies in the recorded amounts during the indicated period.
Mohamed explained that on July 11, 2024, business owner Madam Nancy summoned him to the cashier desk, informing him that CCTV footage had captured Kamara taking two betting chips from a gaming table. Despite Kamara’s denial of the allegations, Madam Nancy insisted on the evidence, leading to Kamara being escorted to the staff room, where he ultimately handed over two betting chips—one valued at ten thousand Leones and the other at five thousand Leones.
Following the incident, Kamara was taken to the Golf Police Station to make a statement. During cross-examination by defense counsel F. Gaber, it was confirmed that substantial amounts of betting chips, exceeding six hundred thousand Leones, had gone missing from the casino. The witness reiterated that Kamara, in his role as cashier, was only permitted to handle money with proper authorization.
