According to Major Brima, Contrary to the sensationalized claims circulating on social media, Major Turay did not meet a violent end. Instead, he succumbed to natural causes on the morning of Wednesday, August 16, 2023.
The circulating photograph of the late Major, accompanied by a false narrative of his demise, has led to unwarranted speculation and misinformation. It is essential to set the record straight: Major Issa Turay’s passing was the result of natural causes, not an act of violence.
Major Turay had been battling health issues for an extended period leading up to his passing. Tragedy struck early on the morning of August 16 when he collapsed at his residence within the Armed Forces Training Centre (AFTC) in Benguema. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, he was then transferred via a military ambulance to the 34 Military Hospital. Regrettably, despite these efforts, he was pronounced deceased upon arrival.
It is imperative to clarify that Major Issa Turay had no association with the list of officers arrested or labeled “WANTED” in connection with the ongoing subversion investigations. The misinformation campaign deliberately attempting to link his passing with these allegations holds no basis in reality.
Major Turay’s legacy is that of a dedicated military professional who played a pivotal role in Sierra Leone’s post-war restoration. He was a member of the inaugural batch of military officers trained by IMATT following the cessation of the rebel war in 2002. Throughout his service, he exhibited brilliance as a military instructor at the Armed Forces Training Centre (AFTC).
