The member of the main opposition All Peoples Congress Party (APC) is heading for disaster bif the current 21-Man Interim Trasitional Governace Committee (IGT fails to meet the deadline set by court to carry out certain activities that will bring sanity to the party.
On the 28th April this year, it could be recalled, the High Court of Justice Adrian Fisher gave orders to the APC to carry out certain activities followed a petition against bit by the now chairman of the 21- man Committee, Alfred Peter Conteh , However, according to political Observers , the party membership is now in a make or break Situation owing to certain disagreements within the said committee, with activities of the party being stalled because of new petitions filled by some members of the party.
The party is expected to be holding inter lower-level elections as ordered by the court but the new petitions have put those activities on hold until they are addressed by Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) . According to a cross section of the party, petitions at this moment together with reports of several factions coming up within the rank and file of the party for the forthcoming flagbearer position is not welcome news for the party members and supporters .The question on the lips of many party members and supporters is whether or not the IGTC will meet the deadline set by the court.
A senior member of the APC, Abdul Karim Bangura has revealed to this press that the 21-Man Committee has already used 30 days out of the three months allotted to it by the court, pointing out that many members and supporters have their focus on the flagbearer race while the activities of the IGTC remain stalled. He furthered that despite using 30 days out of the three months, the IGTC is yet to start the holding of these lower level elections as it awaits the final approval of the draft rules and regulations from the PPRC.
Another supporter of the party who lives in the provinces, Osman T. Sesay stated personal interests are among the key problems within the party’s hierarchy.
Meanwhile, many ordinary supporters of the APC are calling on the executive to put the right people in the right places in order for the party to safely sail through amidst current challenges. They are also calling on the 21-Man Committee to speedily meet with the petitioners and find a ways and means to address this situation so that the party will commence its lower level elections.
