Makeni’s Civic Day drew national attention as government ministers and stakeholders gathered to reinforce peace, civic responsibility, and social cohesion in one of Sierra Leone’s most peaceful city.
The civic event was graced by the presence of the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Minister of Information and Civic Education, along with key stakeholders, including government officials, opposition members, and citizens.
This high-profile event underscored Makeni’s reputation as one of the most peaceful cities in the country.
The Ministry of Information and Civic Education organized the event to foster civic responsibility, social accountability, and national cohesion. Minister Cherine Bah emphasized that peacebuilding and civic education are central to his ministry’s strategies, aiming to promote unity and active citizen participation.
Minister Lengor Esq highlighted the roles and responsibilities of agencies under his ministry, and informed the public about ongoing reforms within the Police Force and Correctional Services to make these sectors more responsive to citizens’ needs.
He also urged residents of Makeni to register with the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA), emphasizing that obtaining a National Identification Number is vital for accessing various government services.
The internal affairs minister praised Makeni’s peaceful environment and called on citizens to uphold such harmony, reinforcing the city’s status as a model of peace and stability in Sierra Leone.
