The Presidential Hajj task force has announced that all intending pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage will be required to undergo mandatory medical screening and general orientation as part of preparations for the annual religious journey to the Holy Land of Makkah.

The exercise, which is aimed at ensuring that pilgrims are medically fit and adequately informed ahead of the pilgrimage, has been made compulsory for the 2026 Hajj. According to the Secretariat, the medical certificate issued after the screening is a key requirement for the issuance of Hajj visas by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Authorities further disclosed that all medical and personal data of intending pilgrims must be uploaded onto the Saudi Arabia Hajj Portal no later than 5 February 2026, a deadline that will determine visa approval.

In line with this, all pilgrims who have successfully completed the official registration and payment process are hereby informed that the medical screening and pilgrim preparedness orientation will take place from Monday 19 January to Thursday 29 January 2026. Each pilgrim will be formally notified by the Hajj Secretariat of the specific date allocated for his or her screening.

The exercise will be conducted at the Old Gym House, Bank of Sierra Leone Complex, Kingtom, Freetown.

The medical screening will involve a comprehensive assessment of pilgrims’ overall health status, including laboratory tests and verification of vaccination records. Intending pilgrims have been advised that the cost of the laboratory test is Six Hundred Leones (Le 600), which will be borne by the pilgrim and is not included in the Hajj fees already paid.

The daily programme for the exercise has been outlined as follows:

  • 9:00am – 10:30am: Morning Pilgrim Orientation
  • 10:20am – 3:30pm: Medical Screening of Intending Pilgrims
  • 3:40pm – 4:40pm: Afternoon Pilgrim Orientation

The Hajj Secretariat has urged all intending pilgrims to comply fully with the schedule and requirements to ensure a smooth and timely completion of the visa process ahead of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
