The newly elected presidential candidate of the All People’s Congress, Dr Samura Kamara and seven other accused persons will face the High Court on Thursday for the ongoing Chancery Building trial.

Kamara, who served as Bank Governor and Foreign Affairs Minister under President Koroma’s government, has been charged to court on a two-count charge; misleading a principal and misappropriation of public funds in the renovation of the country’s Chancery Building in New York.

The APC presidential candidate is accused together with Saidu Nallo, Foday Vahfomba Bawoh, Adikali Foday Suma, Kandeh Foday Basil Kamara and Jules Sanders of corruption-related charges.

Kamara had denied the allegations citing that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) wants to reduce his ‘reputation and credibility’. He vowed to fight the matter in order to clear his name.

According to the ACC, presiding Judge, Adrian Fisher will rule on a no-case submission put forward by defence counsels.

Kamara, if found guilty, could blackball him from contesting in the forthcoming elections -a ruling that political analysts fear could bring chaos to the peaceful West African nation.
