The Director of Communications at State House, Myk Berewa, has disclosed that the government has successfully launched a 50-bed emergency and trauma care unit at Masanga Hospital, upgraded its laboratory facilities, and inspected ongoing construction works on a new pediatric center.
According to Berewa, these developments mark significant milestones in the long-term transformation of Masanga Hospital, which has witnessed remarkable progress over the past two decades. He noted that the hospital’s improvement journey began with a landmark agreement signed in 2006 between the Association of Friends of Masanga (Denmark) and Sierra Leonean Adventists Abroad (United Kingdom).
As a result of this partnership, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation has significantly strengthened its presence at the facility, with government staff numbers increasing from just five to forty-nine. This expansion has enhanced teamwork and service delivery, ensuring continuity of care beyond 2026 and contributing to broader institutional improvements.

Masanga Hospital, located on the outskirts of Magburaka town, is currently undergoing a major transformation under the Bio-led government, with plans underway to transition the facility into a fully government-owned hospital.
Berewa stressed that the projects being implemented are community-centred and not driven by political considerations. He acknowledged that while some initiatives may take time to yield visible outcomes, their long-term impact will be sustainable and far-reaching.
He explained that this approach reflects President Julius Maada Bio’s vision of a “year of accelerated action,” focused on delivering lasting development results that directly improve the lives of citizens.
