Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education (MBSSE) has revealed rules for the 2022 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The rules for first time takers state that:
- You must have been promoted to SSS3 in 2021/22 school year
- You must have taken your BECE in 2019/2020 You must not be in SSS1 or SSS2 in 2022/23
- You must have your NIN
- You must have minimum 80% attendance at the time of entry If your attendance falls below 80% your life card will be withheld
The rules for repeaters state that:
- You are a repeater if your first attempt at WASSCE was in 2021/22 You took your BECE in 2018/19
- You must have your NIN
- If your attendance falls below 80% your life card will be withheld
- You must only repeat in your school where you took your previous WASSCE If you have any compelling extenuating circumstance-e.g. Sickness, Child birth
The rules for principal and school leaders state that:
- You MUST give admission ONLY to candidates who meet the criteria above
- If you have been approved for recognition (Level 1) according to the school approval guidelines, you must continue paying examination fees for your candidates until you are qualified for financial assistance (level 2) You MUST enter pupils with 2021/22 promotional results and 2019/2020 BECE results
- You can only admit the number of repeaters that you would reasonably accommodate You MUST ensure that all repeaters are recorded on the class attendance register that is marked every day
- Your BRS totals MUST reflect the total number of pupils on the class register
