Melrose Karminty, Minister of Social Welfare is in Abuja, Nigeria to participate in a two day hybrid conference on disability inclusion of West Africa
The Conference is organised by the Department of Human Development and Social Affairs of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission.
In 2022, the ECOWAS Ministers in Charge of disability inclusion and experts met in Ghana to develop a framework that encourages member states to commit themselves by developing policies that addresses issues with persons with disability and special needs.
It is noted that, in this Abuja Ministerial meeting, action will be taken by the ministers and ECOWAS to look at the document, make recommendations where necessary, and validate it into making it very sustainable and beneficial to the people, adding that fter the validation of the framework at the end of the two days meeting, it will later be forwarded to the ECOWAS Members of Parliament for ratification as par procedure.
The delegation headed by the minister included the Deputy High Commissioner of the High Commission of Sierra Leone Ms. Anna Betty Musa and the meeting is hosted under the watch of Dr. Sintiki Ugbe, the Director, Humanitarian and Social Affairs of the ECOWAS Commission.
Ideas and other relevant things gained from the meeting will be used to further get the sector very proactive in the country.
