Senior Military Officers Arrested Ahead of Alleged Planned Protest

The Sierra Leone Security sector has disclosed in a press release that they have made several arrests following intelligence regarding activities of certain individuals, including senior military officers suspected to be planned violence against the state and its citizens.

The security sector in the release, mentioned a preliminary investigations revealing that these individuals are planning to use purported peaceful protests between 7th to 10th August 2023, as a guise to unleash violent attacks against state institutions and peaceful citizens.

In that regard, the sector stated that several arrests have been made and the suspects are assisting the police with the investigations.

The security sector noted with dismay, that despite continued efforts to consolidate the hard won peace and democratic gains of the country, there are individuals at home and abroad that continue to undertake actions meant to derail the peace and tranquility of the country.

It however assured the public that the country remains peaceful and that the situation is fully under control.

It concluded by urging the public to remain calm and go about their normal business and encourage them to report any suspicious. activities to the appropriate authorities.

Those arrested let their names and ranks be posted, and face the law if found wanting the consequences attached to their crime let it follow.
