Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah assured Sierra Leone’s of freedom of their opinion.

The minister made this statement in an interview on AYV Wake up Sierra Leone show while addressing question on democracy which include freedom to ones opinion.

According to the minister, Sierra Leone is one of the freest country in Africa, and there is no single journalist in jail for expressing their opinion.

He said before the President Bio administration, there were lots of people in jail including journalists for expressing their opinion, but President Bio has removed the 1965 public order act which was promised by other Head of States, adding that they have also set up the Right to Access Information and they are working on a data protection policy.

A question was asked on the removal of an SLBC staff from Makeni who was allegedly sack for sharing a video of a lady been embarrassed during Town Hall in Freetown.

Bah in his response stated that the lady was dismissed by her institution for sharing something against the institution policy.
He continued that they received a complaint and investigated the issue. They disclosed that the lady does not have a contract with the SLBC but was a volunteer at the marketing department and also the institution have policies governing people working for them.

He said they engaged the board of SLBC to call the lady back if she has a contract at the institution, adding that the ministry is working to bring to book people threatening her on social media and they will face the full force of the law.

He disclosed that the lady have been called upon to resume her volunteering job but had refuse going ahead to contacting different international organizations claiming she was dismiss from her job. He also said the lady have been demanding for a permanent job before she could return again which he said is blackmailing.
